Pentax 67 Poster
The Pentax 67 is a medium format camera that is pretty outdated by today’s standards, but it holds a special place in my heart. This is the one thing that my grandfather left to me in his will. The two of us never really clicked, but in the months going up to his death we finally bonded a little over a mutual love of photography when I showed him my digital camera. “This almost makes me believe in the electron theory!” he said. This camera is a beast and unlike modern solutions every frame you take has a monetary cost for both the film and the developing, but I enjoy the stressful challenge of making every shot count.
Getting up to speed on how to use a medium format camera can be daunting, and I was only able to work it out through trial and error. I wanted to create an infographic that would help a new fan parse through the many vintage lenses and accessories available. Of particular interest are the lenses, which going by the names don't line up with a traditional 35mm camera equivalent.
I wanted this poster to have a vintage early ‘70s feel to it, the era when this camera made its debut. I referenced lots of advertisements from that era and pulled the colors and photo treatments from them. I used my own camera to photograph the ways in which the camera parts can be swapped, a very unusual aspect of this line, and made a sort of exploded diagram using the photos.
